REALTORS: Smartphone, Tablet Are Key Business Tools

About one-third of real estate professionals recently surveyed say they spend more than seven hours of each workday consulting their mobile device. That percentage has unsurprisingly been growing—in 2017, only 18 percent of real estate pros surveyed said they spent that much time on their device during the workday. The latest findings come from the 2018 REALTOR® Mobile Usage Report, conducted by the Realtors Property Resource®. REALTORS® cited the highest uses for their mobile devices as client communication (93.6%); housing research (70.7%); and social media (70.65%). They also ranked the following other tasks highly: arranging home showings (62%); accessing contact management systems (60%); making financial calculations (56%); using it for photography (49%); and tracking mileage or expense (50%). Videography and presentations ranked at the bottom of tasks at 26 percent and 17 percent, respectively. The pros surveyed said their favorite mobile apps to frequently use are RPR, Homesnap, Zillow, ShowingTime, realtor.com®, and a variety of MLS apps. “Consumers rely on REALTORS® to keep a pulse on the housing market in particular areas, and are often expected to produce insights on the spot,” says Reggie Nicolay, RPR vice president of marketing. “With a smartphone or tablet, REALTORS® can provide experiences that are convenient, quick, and personalized—allowing them to meet and anticipate those tasks.” The survey’s findings coincided with a recent product update to RPR’s Buyer Tour interface and report option for its mobile app. The tool allows agents to select listings, determine the order to tour them, and create a client-friendly report to share with buyers that include a detail page of the property and side-by-side view comparisons of included properties.
